10th grade career day
Expectations
For my career day, I decided that I was going to shadow one of my former teachers to see what their job was like and what the environment they are in was like. Since she is an 8th grade teacher, I would be looking at how she would act around her students and maybe helping out in the class to get a feel of what it's like to be taking over the class. My expectations for that day were to really go in and learn more about what it takes to be a teacher and all of the work that goes into planning daily lessons. I expected to see a lot conversation between the class and was ready to work on anything that I was asked to do. As for dress expectations, since I was going to be in a school, I decided to stay a little more formal by using the dress code that is implemented at High Tech High.

Interview Questions
What in your educational background most prepared you for this job?
"For being a teacher, it really is all about being in the environment and in a school which makes you the most prepared of all. Student Teaching classes are what allow you to be most prepared and provide an experience that other classes wouldn't be able to."
How do you interact with other people during your work?
"Constant communication amongst each other allows for the teachers to know what to do in certain cases and how different students react to what they are being taught."
To what extent do you find your work interesting and fulfilling?
"The work continually remains interesting because of how all days are different and how no level of planning will predict the outcome of the class or how the students will respond to the content that is being taught."
What are the most important rules that you must follow in order to be considered a dedicated and responsible professional?
"The best rule for teachers to follow would be to always put the students first and to just try and fit the needs of the entire class. Also; Don't do anything stupid."
Is this a typical work day for you?
"The average day can be pretty hectic, but is what we are used to, and is what it will always be like."

Reflection
The day went on as I expected and I did get a lot of insights of what job is like, but from a first-hand experience which is much different that imagining what it would be like. I would say that it definitely was eye opening because, this was the kind of work that you don't see as a student and it really is impressive to hold a position of this kind. Not only did this give me a first hand experience it made me become more aware and actually made me feel bad because of how teachers put a lot of effort into the work that they plan and how they are sometimes received with negative responses. Also I began to realize that the lessons that they teach are usually repeated twice if not more, and that can be repetitive and would honestly begin to bug you. I would say that this day was really an experience and an occupation that I might not be cut out for, since it requires various skills that I still do not posses or would want to get used to. Overall, it was a great place to shadow at, and was able to be under the mentorship of an amazing person.
